• Representantes de la SCJN, TEPJF, TDJ Y OAJ ratifican su compromiso con el fortalecimiento y protección de los derechos humanos en México

Defender la independencia, autonomía e imparcialidad del Poder Judicial son fundamentales para garantizar la justicia en México, coincidieron el ministro Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, presidente de la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación (SCJN); el magistrado Gilberto Bátiz García, presidente de Tribunal Electoral del Poder Judicial de la Federación (TEPJF); la magistrada Celia Maya García, presidenta del Tribunal de Disciplina Judicial (TDJ) y Néstor Vargas Solano, presidente del Órgano de Administración Judicial (OAJ), con Volker Türk, Alto Comisionado de Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos (ONU-DH).

Durante el encuentro, en el que también participaron las ministras Lenia Batres Guadarrama, Yasmín Esquivel Mossa, Sara Irene Herrerías Guerra y los ministros Giovanni Azael Figueroa Mejía, Irving Espinosa Betanzo y Arístides Rodrigo Guerrero García, se destacó la importancia de considerar la pluriculturalidad del país como una forma de garantizar los derechos, incluso para quienes siempre han sido excluidos de la justicia, particularmente de los pueblos indígenas y el avance del reconocimiento de la justicia pluricultural.

En la reunión, que se realizó en la sede de la SCJN, las personas asistentes destacaron elementos clave para la construcción de sociedades más justas, incluyentes y cohesionadas. El Poder Judicial mexicano y la ONU-DH se comprometieron a seguir colaborando en acciones para fortalecer el sistema de justicia en favor de los derechos de todas las personas.

Al evento, que se llevó a cabo en el marco de la visita del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos en nuestro país, también acudieron Matthias Behnke, director regional de las Américas en la ONU-DH; Humberto Henderson, representante en México de la ONU-DH; Maia Campbell, representante adjunta de la ONU-DH; Enrique Ochoa Martínez, subsecretario para Asuntos Multilaterales y Derechos Humanos de la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores, así como Jeniffer Feller Enriquez, directora general de Derechos Humanos y Democracia de la propia Cancillería.

Por parte de la SCJN, estuvieron presentes, José Hernández Hernández, secretario general de la Presidencia de este Alto Tribunal; Víctor Leonel Juan Martínez, director general de Derechos Humanos y Justicia Pluricultural; Cristina Solano Díaz, directora general de Igualdad Sustantiva y No Discriminación; Amanda Pérez Bolaños, directora general de Comunicación Social; Mardonio Carballo Manuel, director general de Plural TV; Beatriz Casas Arellanes, directora general de las Casas de los Saberes Jurídicos, y Karina López Regalado, directora general de Atención  y Participación Social.

AUTHORITIES OF MEXICO’S FEDERAL JUDICIARY MEET WITH THE UNITED NATIONS HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

• Representatives of the SCJN, TEPJF, TDJ and OAJ reaffirm their commitment to the strengthening and protection of human rights in Mexico

Defending the independence, autonomy, and impartiality of the Judiciay System  is essential to ensuring justice in Mexico, agreed Justice Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN); Magistrate Gilberto Bátiz García, President of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF); Magistrate Celia Maya García, President of the Judicial Discipline Tribunal (TDJ); and Néstor Vargas Solano, President of the Judicial Administration Body (OAJ), in a meeting with Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

During the meeting, which was also attended by Justices Lenia Batres Guadarrama, Yasmín Esquivel Mossa, Sara Irene Herrerías Guerra, and Justices Giovanni Azael Figueroa Mejía, Irving Espinosa Betanzo, and Arístides Rodrigo Guerrero García, participants underscored the importance of recognizing the country’s multicultural composition as a means of guaranteeing rights, including for those who have historically been excluded from justice, particularly Indigenous peoples, as well as the progress made in the recognition of plural legal systems.

At the meeting, held at the headquarters of the SCJN, attendees highlighted key elements for building more just, inclusive, and cohesive societies. The Mexican Judicial Branch and the OHCHR committed to continuing their collaboration on actions aimed at strengthening the justice system in favor of the rights of all persons.

The event, which took place during the visit of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to Mexico, was also attended by Matthias Behnke, Regional Director for the Americas at OHCHR; Humberto Henderson, OHCHR Representative in Mexico; Maia Campbell, Deputy Representative of OHCHR; Enrique Ochoa Martínez, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Jeniffer Feller Enríquez, Director General for Human Rights and Democracy at the same Ministry.
